Pack household belongings

Moving TVs, Computers, Refrigerators and Washing Machines

Prepare electronics and appliances with model-specific instructions, data backups, labelled accessories and a clear disconnection-to-installation plan.

THE PRACTICAL CHECKLIST

Before you start

  • Assign responsibility for preparation, transport and reinstallation.
  • Back up data and label cables and accessories before packing.
  • Use the model’s instructions when arranging appliance preparation.

An appliance move has three separate jobs: make the equipment ready, protect and transport it, and reinstall it correctly. Confirm who does each one. “Appliance packing included” does not automatically include plumbing, electrical work, wall mounting or commissioning at the new home.

Make a list of models and keep their manuals available. Record existing condition and any operating issue before collection. Where possible, use the manufacturer’s guidance for the exact product rather than a universal countdown or dismantling method from a moving checklist.

Protect data before protecting the box

Back up important computer and phone data, then confirm the backup can be accessed. Keep work credentials, recovery information and essential devices under your control. Follow your employer’s process for company equipment instead of packing it as ordinary personal property.

Photograph cable connections where that will help reassembly. Label power supplies and accessories with the device reference, keeping the identifying information practical rather than exposing passwords or account details. Remove media and loose accessories where the manual directs, and shut equipment down normally before disconnection.

Carry the laptop and chargers you need during transit separately. A carton arriving safely later does not help a meeting scheduled before delivery.

TVs and monitors need screen support

Tell the team the model and screen size, whether the stand is attached, and whether the original carton and fitted inserts remain usable. A box without its supporting inserts is not the same protective arrangement as the original complete packaging.

Sony’s television manual example illustrates why model instructions matter: it specifies handling that avoids pressure on the panel and recommends original packing for transport. Check your own model’s manual for its lifting and packing instructions.

If the original pack is unavailable, ask for an assessed alternative that supports the equipment without pressing against the screen. Record the stand, remote, cables and mounting hardware as associated parts. Wall removal and remounting should have an explicit scope and suitable installer.

Give ink-tank printers their own preparation check

Find the transport instructions for the exact printer before sealing its carton. For EcoTank models, Epson explains that incorrect orientation can cause ink leaks. Complete the normal shutdown and wait for the power light to go out before unplugging. Remove paper and check the scanner for an original document you still need.

Follow the model’s instructions for tank caps, transport locks and internal protection; do not improvise taping inside the machine. Keep opened ink bottles out of the printer carton. If the original packing is missing, arrange a supported replacement pack and mark the required orientation. Record any preparation tape or lock so the receiver knows what must be released before use.

Prepare a refrigerator before packing day

Plan food use, cleaning and any required defrosting early enough for the appliance to be ready. Follow the manual for detachable shelves, drawers, water connections and transport orientation. Arrange qualified help for a connection you are not equipped to handle.

Restart instructions depend on the model and how it travelled. Samsung’s guidance distinguishes transport conditions and directs users to model-specific instructions. Do not apply one waiting time to every refrigerator. Keep the instructions available to the receiver so arrival does not trigger an automatic plug-in.

Confirm the new space, doorway fit, ventilation requirements and power location before delivery. Moving the refrigerator twice because cabinetry was not measured adds avoidable handling.

Check washing-machine transport requirements

Find the exact manual and identify the appropriate transport parts before the machine is disconnected. Some front-load models require their specified transit bolts during transport and removal before operation, as this LG model manual demonstrates. Do not assume another model uses the same components or procedure.

Use suitable technical help for disconnection, draining, transit preparation and reconnection when required. Keep approved hoses, fittings and transport parts identified. Ask who will check the installation before the first wash; packing and unloading alone do not complete that task.

Agree specialist work for other appliances

Air conditioners, water purifiers, built-in cooking equipment and fixed lighting may need authorised or qualified technicians. Schedule removal before the moving crew needs to pack them, and confirm the destination is ready for installation. Keep service paperwork with the inventory.

Declare batteries, damaged equipment and unusual devices to the transport provider. Never conceal a damaged battery or improvise work on an electric-vehicle system. The accepted method should follow the maker and carrier’s applicable requirements.

Inspect and reconnect deliberately

Check carton numbers, visible condition and accessories at delivery. Photograph any problem before disposing of packaging and report it promptly. Reconnect only after the item’s transport and installation requirements have been met; appearance alone cannot confirm correct preparation.

Keep a short completion list: received, unpacked, installation pending, installed, checked. It distinguishes a missing appliance from an appliance awaiting a booked technician.

Questions about appliance moving

Can I use ordinary bubble wrap for a television?

Wrapping alone does not provide the fitted support a screen may require. Ask for a model-appropriate pack and handling plan, especially when the original inserts are missing.

Will the mover disconnect and reinstall everything?

Only if those tasks are specifically accepted. Identify electrical, plumbing, wall mounting and brand-service work in the written scope.

Can a refrigerator or washing machine be used immediately after delivery?

Follow its exact instructions and the installation checks appropriate to the model and journey. There is no single restart rule for all appliances.

Use the inventory guide to track devices and the quote checklist to compare technical-work exclusions.
